Welcome to Episode 100 of the Plant Based DFW Podcast show. I am Maya Acosta and my co host Dr. Rizwan Bukhari is working, you had just listened to our new podcast track. It is an electric guitar version of our previous acoustic track. And it's a nicer variation, I think. So Dr. Riz and I would like to thank all of our listeners, we hope that you've been enjoying our interviews and we hope that you find them beneficial.
Little bit about our podcast for our new listeners, Dr. Riz and I started podcasting in late 2018. At that time, our goal had been to spend more time on our sailboat and to interview people along the way. So our initial podcast cover logo, had a sailboat on it that kind of looked a little pink, but it was supposed to be a sunset, it quickly became apparent that we would not be sailing as often as we had hoped. And so doctor is also continues to stay pretty busy during these days. My apologies for the delayed release of this week's episode, I typically release the audio version of our week's podcast on Sunday evening, and then I released the YouTube video version on Monday morning. This makes it easy for me to then share to our newsletter on a weekly basis. I spent Monday as a health day doing my annual visits and lab work. And I've also been taking time to self care since I tend to overwork from time to time, so I have to sort of force myself not to work. In today's episode, I'm going to give you a little insight as to the production of our podcast episodes like how do we select our guests? How can you listen to our podcasts across various platforms? And what sort of content can you expect for the next couple of months? So let's get started. While our emphasis has always been on plant based nutrition, we have now incorporated the modalities of lifestyle medicine into our podcast, I will be making a video with more details about this field. But basically, we cover plant based nutrition exercise as medicine, stress management. Also, we like to cover mental health. The benefits of doing yoga and meditation and connectivity. You know, building relationships are important as well. So how do we select our guest? Well, typically I do my research to find guests who are qualified to speak on any of these modalities that I just mentioned. From time to time, someone will reach out via our website and request to be a guest. And this also means that then I take the time to do the research for that potential guests to see if they will be a good fit for our show. At the end of this week, I will be taking a break from interviews so that I can focus on editing and uploading current interviews. And basically what I do is I sometimes batch interviews, so I'll do two or three interviews a day, so that then I can just spend time working and promoting that content. But here's what you can expect for the next couple of months based on the interviews that I currently have. In the following episodes, we will cover topics such as the benefits of consuming algae, we'll talk about depression, mood disorders, the prevention and management of mental health issues, psychotherapy, adolescent therapy, trauma, yoga, and then we move on to the eyes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, eye dryness. And then other topics I thought were really important like rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory foods and food sensitivities that gut brain connection, recipe development and cookbook authors, tips and strategies to transition to a whole food plant based diet. culinary programs for medical students heart healthy programs for children will have more weight loss testimonies, they will talk about the importance of connectivity and self care, along with stress management, functional medicine, racial disparities in health care, women's health, then that includes preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. So those are a lot of topics. And I have already interview the experts. And like I said, this is the content that you can expect for the next two months. And by the way, I typically only release one interview per week, and that's typically on Monday. But because I have a lot of content I my goal is to release two or three episodes a week, so make sure that whatever app you're using to listen to our podcast, subscribe to it, or follow us so that you can receive notifications every single time we upload. While some of our guests may offer paid programs and services, our podcast itself is free to listen to, and it gives you a glimpse into what the experts have to offer and this is another reason why I find so much value every time a physician a therapist, a health coach, just a guess in general takes an hour from their busy schedule to speak to us about their specialty. I think it's a great way to kind of have a glimpse into what that expert can be like. So how exactly do you listen to our podcasts? Well, the starting point is our main podcast website. It's plantbaseddfwpodcast.com. I'll include a link in the show notes. And by the way, if you don't know how the show where the show notes are located, I need to do a video and just showing you how to navigate all of that. We're basically on Spotify, iHeart Radio, SoundCloud, Apple podcast, Pandora, amazon music, Google podcasts, Stitcher, Overcast, Cast Box, TuneIn and Podcast Addict, and along with YouTube, so if you go to the Dr. Rizwan Bukhari YouTube channel, you will find that our podcasts are also located there. And that's the video portion of it. So if you only listen to audio you, you might be interested in knowing that we do offer the video version as well in case you want to see what our guests look like. So when you visit our website, you can search episodes, according to whether you're looking for physicians, dietitians, health coaches, etc. Or you can just listen to the most recent episodes and work your way down. So every guest has ever been on our podcast has their own page episode page. So when you go to their page, you'll see the YouTube video and then you'll see the 12 different platforms where you can listen, you will also see a description of the episode along with the links to our guest. And also you can see the transcript if you feel like reading the conversation as well. So a little bit more of what happens behind the scenes. So when I'm putting together episodes, so I basically run the podcast, I recruit guests, I do my research on each gas and the topics I'd set the appointments, I execute the interviews, I edited and advertise the episodes. And I do not outsource any of my work. So every episode can take me anywhere from five to 10 hours. From the time that I actually research a guest to the time that I release the interview. So this is a full time job for me, and I love it. I plan on doing a video titled a day in the life of a podcaster in the new in the near future so that you can see my setup of how I interview what equipment I use, but also you'll have an idea of how I edit, and what I use to edit my co hosts and my husband, Dr. Riz joins me every now and then he when he is available, he typically will join me on a weekend or an evening. From time to time he will take the day off. That's rare because the schedule is pretty tight. But he'll take the day off to be available for certain guests. And when he is available to interview. We try to do two or three interviews in that day because it works out best for him that way.
